Ling Oei MD PhD is an internist-endocrinologist/free-lance clinician and scientist. She works for Amsterdam UMC and the Jan van Goyen Medical Center (Amsterdam). Dr. Oei provides on-site medical care, tele-medicine and sometimes she consults patients elsewhere (for example at companies or general practices "anderhalvelijnszorg"). She is the coordinator of the academic workplace clinical occupational health at Amsterdam UMC. From 2020 until now, dr. Oei has a hospitality agreement at the department of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). She received her Medical Doctor training at Leiden University. In parallel dr. Oei has also graduated from the Bachelors and Masters programmes in Chinese studies. She obtained her Master of Science in Genetic Epidemiology and Doctor of Philosophy degrees with honors from Erasmus University. She has done a postdoctoral fellowship for one year at Stanford University in 2013. In 2019 she has been an International Federation of Musculoskeletal Research Societies exchange scholar for one month in Aarhus, Denmark. Dr. Oei has completed a residency in internal medicine with subspecialty in endocrinology from 2014-2020. Thereafter, she has been appointed as a faculty member-assistant professor at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, until July 2023. She has been awarded the American Society of Bone Mineral Research (ASBMR) Young Investigator Award and the Dutch Bone and Mineral Society Best Presentation Award. Dr. Oei has been active among the main investigators in large-scale consortia including the GEFOS (Genetic Factors for Osteoporosis) and (Training network for research into bone Fragility In Diabetes in Europe - towards a personaLised medIcine approach) European Training Network funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme. In 2019 she was rewarded a prestigious Erasmus MC fellowship grant. She has been a member of the ECTS academy until 2023. Dr. Oei has published over fifty papers, among which in British Medical Journal, Nature Genetics, American Journal of Medicine, Diabetes Care, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Bone, and Osteoporosis International. She has worked at the Van Weel-Bethesda Hospital (Dirksland), Lengg Body and Mind Group (Dordrecht-Sliedrecht-Barendrecht-Zoetermeer-Rotterdam) and the Albert Schweitzer Medical Center (Dordrecht-Zwijndrecht). Finally, she loves teaching and she has a special research interest in clinical epidemiological studies into the health effects of the environment including occupational workload and toxic substances such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Additionally she is interested how different conditions affect the work ability of employees. Ling is married to Edwin Oei and together they have two daughters Alicia and Valerie. In her sparetime she enjoys Chinese Martial arts (wushu/kungfu, taijiquan, qigong, daoyin), playing the piano and computer games.
